National Research On Girl Child Education

CRY funded this baseline study to assess the enabling & disabling factors that contribute to access & continuation of education for the girl child in the study states of Bihar, Haryana, and Andhra Pradesh & Gujarat and to generate evidence on effectiveness of select approaches to education incentivisation schemes for education of girl child.
DevInsights conducted this baseline study to inform the programme development by building profile of the households of the girl children, particularly their income and poverty levels, the knowledge (their belief regarding gender roles etc.) and education base of the parents of these girl children, the experiences (education and otherwise) of girls who were presently studying and drop outs to build on the enabling and disabling factors and the response of the state towards education of girl child through incentivization and infrastructural improvement. A total of 3208 samples were covered from households, whereby the respondents included school going and school dropout girls, and their parents. In addition to this various duty bearers involved in the implementation of schemes promoting and securing the rights of the girl child, including the school teachers and scheme implementers were also interviewed.
