End Of Programme Evaluation Of The AKND Comprehensive Sanitation Initiative-Learnings, Lessons And Way Forward

Aga Khan Foundation started comprehensive sanitation initiative way back in 2014. The project was carried out across the five states of India (Uttar Pardesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pardesh & Gujarat). The project began with promoting the usage of toilets among the most marginalised communities targetting SCs, Tribals & minorities. Intensive BCC techniques was applied to motivate the community members to increase the toilet usage.
DevInsights followed the DAC criteria for the programme evaluation and utilized a cross-sectional mixed method research design where data was collected using both quantitative & qualitative tools like structured interview, observation checklist, Key Informant Interviews, IDIs & Focus Group Discussions. The evaluation tapped the perspectives of multiple stakeholders from CEO of Aga Khan Foundation to top state & district officials & at the community level para workers, Swachhgrahis, SHG groups, Nigrani Samiti, PRI members. The data collection included 1600 households and 300 students from 60 schools across four states. In addition around 60 in-depth interviews and around 20 FGDs.
