TNCC is actively engaged in promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices, particularly in the context of regenerative agriculture in Punjab, Northwest India. The organization is working with farmers to identify and implement solutions to challenges posed by certain farming methods that harm the environment and threaten the long-term sustainability of farming. TNCC initiated ‘Promoting Regenerative and No-Burn Agriculture’ (PRANA) project, aiming to reduce agricultural carbon footprints in Punjab and Haryana, North India.
TNCC, in collaboration with corporate and other partners, has launched a three-year pilot program aimed at rice and wheat farmers in 60 villages of Punjab and Haryana, North India. The project’s goal is to reduce agricultural carbon footprints through the adoption of regenerative and no-burn agriculture. The specific approaches include enhancing farmer knowledge of Crop Residue Management (CRM) technologies, conducting pilot demonstrations, and establishing a robust monitoring and evaluation system.
DevInsights executed a perception analysis study using a cross-sectional mixed-method research design. The study aimed to evaluate farmers’ awareness, attitudes, and practices concerning regenerative agricultural methods in Punjab and Haryana, North India, within the framework of the PRANA project. The study sought to comprehend the primary barriers and challenges associated with the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices while simultaneously identifying the perceived benefits. A total of 600 farmers participated in interviews as part of the study, complemented by qualitative surveys to delve into the underlying reasons and factors influencing such perceptions. Additionally, a case compendium was compiled, documenting successful regenerative agriculture demonstrations conducted within the TNCC project.
