Renewable Energy and Climate Change

UNEP reports that fossil fuels are currently used to produce 80% of the world’s energy and 66% of electricity, contributing to about 60% of greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. In order for development to be sustainable, it is imperative that energy services are both secure and environmentally sound. To achieve sustainable social and economic development, access to affordable energy resources is essential. This may require different strategies based on the stage of economic development. To minimize environmental impact, energy services must be delivered with low greenhouse gas emissions. According to the United Nations, the production of renewable energy results in significantly fewer emissions compared to the combustion of fossil fuels. A critical step in tackling the climate crisis is the shift from fossil fuels, which currently contribute substantially to emissions, to the adoption of renewable energy sources.

DevInsights is acutely aware of the pivotal role that research, monitoring, and evaluation play in addressing the challenges of climate change. Our unwavering commitment involves not only producing but also actively sharing data, knowledge, and insights. By doing so, we aim to provide valuable policy guidance and technical support to a wide array of implementation agencies and policy advisors working towards effective climate action.
