Save the Children through its education programmes has been working extensively on bridging the gender disparity in education. One of the interventions is working with Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas across several states to promote and enhance the girl’s education status. DevInsights was tasked to carry out an assessment of the overall impact of the work undertaken by Save the Children in the KGBVs at the project locations in Rajasthan and Jharkhand and documenting the innovations, practices and experiences of the programmes to uplift the status of girl education for developing a policy paper for advocacy for replication of good practices on girls education. In the study data was collected from 10 schools across both study states under treatment and control arms wherein stakeholders including school girls, the teachers in school, hostel warden, parents of the school girls and government officials were covered. A total of 50 structured interviews, 30 observations schedules (of school and classroom transactions), 38 in depth interviews with teachers, parents, warden and school girls, and 18 focus group discussions with parents and school girls were undertaken. Apart from this, a policy paper highlighting the present scenario and recommending appropriate actions in this regard was also prepared.
